Why Is My Life So Chaotic, and Where Is God in It? (Psalm 107) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Chaos can show up in our lives for all kinds of reasons. Today we look at four reasons you may be experiencing chaos and what you can do about it, using the four pictures in Psalm 107. In every one, people cry out to the Lord and He brings them out of their distress. "Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble; He brought them out of their distresses." (Psalm 107:28) Questions this episode answers What are the four groups in Psalm 107? Psalm 107 describes people wandering in the desert, prisoners in darkness, people suffering because of their own foolish choices, and sailors caught in a storm. Each group finds itself in a different kind of trouble. Each one cries out to God, and He rescues them. Does God still help me if my chaos is my own fault? Yes. Psalm 107:17-20 talks about people who suffered because of their own sin, and when they cried out, God sent His word and healed them. His love is not limited to people who never mess up. What should I do when my life feels out of control? Psalm 107 points to a simple first step: cry out to the Lord. Then remember His past rescues and give thanks, as the psalm repeats again and again. He is able to calm the storm, as verse 29 says. Links If life has felt like a storm lately, our Maui retreat is a contemplative Bible study with time to rest, pray, and let God quiet your heart.
