Finding Your People: You Were Never Meant to Walk Alone
You can have a good marriage, a full house, and a church you love, and still feel lonely. Sometimes that ache comes from not having people who are walking toward Jesus alongside you. In this episode we stand on the Via Appia, the ancient road Paul walked into Rome as a prisoner in chains. Believers in Rome heard he was coming and walked out to meet him, some about forty-three miles, so he wouldn't walk the last stretch alone. "And when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage." (Acts 28:15) The Greek word behind took courage is tharsos, the strength to face what's coming. Paul's chains stayed on and his trial was still ahead. What changed was that he wasn't walking alone. Community doesn't remove the hard road. It means you don't walk it by yourself. So who is walking your road with you right now? And if the answer is no one, what's one step you could take toward the kind of community that comes out to meet you? Yes. Many women come by themselves, and you won't stay by yourself for long. Walking a preserved stretch of the Appian Way is part of our Rome trip. Women often arrive as strangers, and by the end of the week they've found their people. Bible Study Live is a small-group Bible study trip with Rachael Groll. Study Scripture where it happened in Rome, or slow down for a contemplative Bible study retreat in Maui. Dates and details at BibleStudyLive.org Learn more about your ad choices.
