Rubens Masterpiece Restoration in Antwerp

In Antwerp, Belgium, a massive Peter Paul Rubens painting, Enthroned Madonna Adored by Saints, is undergoing a two-year restoration at the Royal Fine Arts Museum. Led by twin sisters Ellen and Jill Keppens, a team of six restorers is meticulously cleaning and repairing the painting, often with museum visitors watching. The project, scheduled to finish in 2027, aims to reveal the original brightness of the paint, despite challenges like thick varnish and previous poor restorations. The Daily News Now! — Every city.
