Mamdani Vows to Tackle Crises, Engages Trump

New York City's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, takes office amidst political tension with former President Trump. Mamdani, who won despite Trump's threats to withhold federal funding, promises to tax millionaires to fund expanded social programs. He names his transition team, including Lina Khan, Elana Leopold, and Maria Torres-Springer, and vows to tackle the twin crises of an authoritarian administration and an affordability crisis. Despite the tension, Mamdani leaves the door open for conversations with the Trump administration and looks forward to showing the power of an example in New York City.
