Life Sentence for Telegram Sex Crime Ring Leader

South Korean Court Sentences Telegram Sex Crime Ring Leader to Life in PrisonA South Korean court has sentenced Kim Nok-wan, the leader of a notorious Telegram sex crime ring, to life in prison. Kim, who called himself pastor, headed a large group known as the Vigilantes, which blackmailed victims into creating explicit content and then shared it in online chatrooms. Between May two thousand twenty and January two thousand twenty-five, the Vigilantes exploited at least two hundred sixty-one individuals, making it the largest cybersex exploitation case in South Koreas history. Kim was found guilty of systematic crimes, including sexually assaulting minors and distributing child sex abuse images. The court stated that despite Kims claims of remorse, his crimes were numerous and brutal over several years. Kim had sought out both male and female targets on social media, luring them to Telegram before blackmailing them. Police say Kim approached men interested in deepfake images and women expressing sexual curiosity, then threatened to expose their personal details. Some victims were even recruited into the Vigilantes pyramid scheme, given titles like evangelist, to bring in more victims. Kim forced victims to submit daily reports and letters of remorse, punishing those who failed with nude photos or self-harm. This case also marks the first time Telegram cooperated with South Korean police, providing crucial data that helped in the investigation and led to Kims arrest. The Daily News Now! — Every city.
