Story Transcript:
Lv: Rudenīgs vakars bija klāt.
En: It was an autumnal evening.
Lv: Lapas čaukstēja uzsisto vēja brāzmu rokā.
En: Leaves rustled in the grip of the gusting wind.
Lv: Pilsēta atkāpās piedodam mākonim, kas apklāja debesis, un pērkons solīja drīzu uzbrukumu.
En: The city receded, yielding to the cloud that covered the sky, and thunder promised an imminent assault.
Lv: Janis stāvēja bunkura priekšā.
En: Janis stood in front of the bunker.
Lv: Tā bija vieta, kur paslēpties no visa - pat no paša domām.
En: It was a place to hide from everything - even from one's own thoughts.
Lv: Vecais bunkurs bija ģimenes relikvija — ieraksts pagātnē, ko mazvērtīgākais noslēpums uzturēja dzīvu.
En: The old bunker was a family relic—a record of the past, kept alive by its insignificant secret.
Lv: Tēvs reizēm teica, ka tas ir drošākais patvērums, kad daba rāda savu niknumu.
En: His father sometimes said it was the safest refuge when nature showed its wrath.
Lv: Tā bija ideāla vieta, lai novaldītu arī domas vētras.
En: It was the ideal place to also control the storms of thought.
Lv: Jani nodarbināja cita vētra.
En: Janis was troubled by a different storm.
Lv: Tā auga viņa prātā jau kopš tās dienas, kad viņš un Ilze pēdējo reizi saķildojās.
En: It had been growing in his mind since that day when he and Ilze last quarreled.
Lv: Viņu nesaprašanās bija kā rēta, ko vēja brāzmas neārstēja.
En: Their misunderstanding was like a wound that the gusts of wind did not heal.
Lv: Viņš nolēma šajā rudenīgajā vakarā izņemt to rētu.
En: He decided to remove that wound on this autumnal evening.
Lv: "Ilze, tu esi klāt? Es ceru, ka tev bija laiks atnākt uz pusdienām," viņš ieminējās telefonā.
En: "Ilze, are you there? I hope you had time to come for lunch," he murmured into the phone.
Lv: "Būšu," viņa balss bija lakota ar neticību.
En: "I'll be there," her voice was coated with disbelief.
Lv: Kādu stundu vēlāk, kad vētra jau bija izvērtusies pilnā spēkā, ienāca Ilze, aiz viņas ciltsbrālis Andris.
En: About an hour later, when the storm was in full force, Ilze arrived, followed by her kinsman Andris.
Lv: Viņi piesēdās pie senā ozolkoka galda bunkura vidū.
En: They sat down at the old oak table in the middle of the bunker.
Lv: "Uz galda tur ir šie cepumi... mūsu iecienītākie no bērnības," Janis stostoties atzina.
En: "On the table, there are these cookies... our favorites from childhood," Janis admitted, stuttering.
Lv: Viņš vēlējās izveidot saikni caur to, kas reiz viņus vienojusi.
En: He wanted to create a connection through what had once united them.
Lv: Ilze nopūtās un paņēma vienu cepumu, uzmanot, kā pērkons aiz bungām.
En: Ilze sighed and took a cookie, watching as the thunder drummed outside.
Lv: "Ko tieši tu ar to domā, Janis?" viņas dusmas bija kā epizodiskas zibspuldzes vētrā.
En: "What exactly do you mean by this, Janis?" her anger flashed like episodic lightning in the storm.
Lv: "Es... es gribu saprast. Mums jābeidz šis tukšums... jācenšas vēlreiz," viņš uz atklātu sirdi atzinās.
En: "I... I want to understand. We must end this emptiness... try once again," he confessed with an open heart.
Lv: Janis vēlējās, lai bunkura mierīgā vide apslāpētu viņa bailes no neveiksmes.
En: Janis hoped the calm atmosphere of the bunker would quench his fears of...
