Story Transcript:
Et: Tanel astus ettevaatlikult Tallinna vanalinna pisikese kohviku ukse sisse.
En: Tanel stepped cautiously into the door of a small café in Tallinna Old Town.
Et: Oli vaikne sügisene hommik.
En: It was a quiet autumn morning.
Et: Lehed krudisesid värskelt pestud tänavatel.
En: Leaves crunched on the freshly washed streets.
En: The café was filled with soft light and the smell of coffee, which reached all the way out to the door.
Et: Tanel, kaustik täis joonistusi käes, astus leti poole.
En: Tanel, with a notebook full of sketches in hand, walked toward the counter.
I'm Tanel, starting my first day at work," before he could finish, Maarja, the café's long-term barista, greeted him despite the noise of the coffee grinder.
Et: "Ah, tere Tanel," naeratas Maarja, "Oled õigel ajal. Täna saame hõivatud olema."
En: "Oh, hello Tanel," smiled Maarja, "You're right on time. We're going to be busy today."
En: Tanel felt both excitement and nervousness at once.
En: He tried to remember how to froth milk in the machine and change the coffee grounds.
En: But when the first order came—two cappuccinos and one black coffee with slices of cinnamon roll—his hands started trembling.
En: Right on the first day, coffee spilled, and the roll ended up on the wrong table.
Et: Maarja pani tähele teda.
En: Maarja noticed him.
En: "Don't worry, Tanel," she said, "all beginnings are tough. But I see potential in you."
Et: Tanel jõudis hingata.
En: Tanel managed to breathe.
Et: "Mulle väga meeldib kunsti teha. Ma tahaksin õppida ja siin hästi hakkama saada."
En: "I really love making art. I want to learn and do well here."
En: "One step at a time. But if you're willing, you'll succeed."
Et: Samal ajal võttis Ilkka, püsiklient, oma harjumuspärase koha akna all.
En: Meanwhile, Ilkka, a regular customer, took his customary place by the window.
En: With a camera around his neck, he noted every detail.
Et: Kui kohvik äkitselt täitus rahvast ja tellimused laualt lauale võidusõitu tegid, astus Maarja Taneli juurde.
En: When the café suddenly filled up with people and orders raced from table to table, Maarja approached Tanel.
Et: "Tanel, meil on uued päevapakkumised. Kas sa saaksid menüütahvlit värskendada?" palus ta.
En: "Tanel, we have new daily specials. Could you update the menu board?" she asked.
Et: See oli Taneli hetk.
En: This was Tanel's moment.
Et: Ta otsis välja mõned värvilised...
