Story Transcript:
En: Mateo stood on the Riva, enjoying the mild autumn breeze that carried the scent of the sea.
En: Water droplets gleamed from his sneakers, remnants from the shallow water where he had walked earlier, while his friends, Ana and the rest of the group, sat on the benches eating sandwiches.
En: Today was a special day—a school trip to the historical naval base in Split, near the harbor.
En: Mateo was excited, but also a bit nervous.
En: His upcoming exams swirled in his mind, like a torrent of numbers overwhelming him at the least expected moments.
Hr: Ali danas, makar i nakratko, htio se usredotočiti na priliku da nauči nešto novo i impresionira svoju učiteljicu povijesti, Anu.
En: But today, even if just briefly, he wanted to focus on the opportunity to learn something new and impress his history teacher, Ana.
En: Ana loved history, just like Mateo.
En: She often encouraged him to ask questions and explore beyond school textbooks.
En: "Mateo, your head is like a sponge, just absorbing everything," she would often say with a smile that encouraged him.
Hr: Na ulazu u bazu čekao ih je Josip, vodič s kapom mornarskog plavetnila.
En: At the entrance to the base, Josip, a guide in a navy blue cap, awaited them.
Hr: "Dobrodošli, dragi prijatelji," pozdravio ih je.
En: "Welcome, dear friends," he greeted them.
Hr: "Danas ćemo prošetati kroz vrijeme i otkriti tajne naše pomorske prošlosti.
En: "Today, we'll walk through time and uncover the secrets of our naval past."
En: As they stepped inside the walls of the old base, Mateo absorbed everything Josip talked about—about ancient ships, naval battles, and heroes of the past.
En: Mateo asked questions, yet he worried about their complexity.
En: What if he forgets everything when he gets home?
En: "Speaking of the Battle of Vis," Josip said, "did you know that this battle didn't just change the history of the Adriatic, but the entire empire?"
Hr: "Srce mu je poskočilo.
En: His heart leapt.
Hr: Mateo je nedavno proučavao tu bitku u školi.
En: Mateo had recently studied that battle in school.
Hr: "Da, Vis!
En: "Yes, Vis!"
Hr: ", uzviknuo je.
