Af: Die vars winterlug het skerp gesnyt op die gesig van die drie vriende terwyl hulle aan die voet van Tafelberg gestaan het.
En: The fresh winter air cut sharply against the faces of the three friends as they stood at the foot of Tafelberg.

Af: Marius, met selfvertroue soos altyd, kyk na bo en sê: "Vandag is die dag. Ons sal die top voor sonsondergang bereik."
En: Marius, confident as always, looked up and said, "Today is the day. We will reach the top before sunset."
