Story Transcript:
En: In the old house, where the wooden tables were heavily adorned with plates of mashed rutabaga, meatballs, and lit candles, Elin sat silently.
En: It was autumn, and the leaves rustled against the windows in rhythm with the chilly wind.
En: Family dinners at her parents' home were not a happy affair, but rather a scene familiar with tense smiles and unsaid words.
En: Elin glanced at her brother, Sven, who fiddled with his napkin in his lap to hide his nervousness.
En: He was always the mediator, the one who tried to keep the peace.
En: Sven sensed that the evening would be different.
En: He felt a storm awakening in Elin, one that had long been suppressed.
En: "So, Elin," their father began with his mouth full of food, "how's work going?"
Sv: Elin suckade inombords.
En: Elin sighed inwardly.
Sv: Frågoneuraullen var säker.
En: The barrage of questions was inevitable.
En: She didn't even like her job, but it wasn't the right place to talk about it.
En: Instead, she took a sip of raspberry juice and gave a short reply, "It's going."
En: But behind those few words bubbled the secret that no one talked about.
En: A secret she knew could tear down the false facade her family clung to so tightly.
En: She looked at Sven again and saw his eyes encouraging her to keep the family peace intact.
Sv: Men hon visste att sanningen behövde komma fram.
En: But she knew the truth needed to come out.
Sv: Sven märkte hur Elins händer darrade när hon tog upp gaffeln igen.
En: Sven noticed how Elin's hands trembled when she picked up the fork again.
Sv: En tyst överenskommelse formades mellan syskonen.
En: A silent agreement was formed between the siblings.
Sv: Det var dags nu, oavsett konsekvenserna.
En: It was time now, regardless of the consequences.
Sv: Medan det stela samtalet kring bordet fortsatte, hörde Elin knappt vad de andra sa.
En: While the stiff conversation around the table continued, Elin barely heard what the others were saying.
En: She knew she had to prepare for the confrontation.
Sv: Hon satte gaffeln tillbaka...
