Why Did Jesus Cleanse the Temple?

Why did Jesus cleanse the temple—and what did it really mean?

In this episode of The Based Boomer, Mike D'Virgilio explores the deeper redemptive-historical significance behind Jesus’ cleansing of the temple, His cursing of the fig tree, and the coming judgment on Jerusalem in A.D. 70.

Was this merely a protest against corruption, or was Jesus announcing something far greater?

Connecting Christ’s actions to Leviticus 14 and the laws concerning an unclean house, Mike argues that the temple cleansing symbolized God’s final judicial sentence against a corrupt covenant order—fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem, just as Jesus foretold.

This episode examines prophecy, covenant judgment, and why A.D. 70 remains one of the most important events for understanding the New Testament.
