US Suicide Rate Drops Slightly

New data shows a slight decrease in U.S. suicide rates, with just over 48,800 deaths in 2024, down from 2023. This marks a return to rising rates after nearly two decades, following a brief dip during the pandemic. The decline varies by age and region, with late twenties to early thirties seeing a notable drop. Health systems and crisis lines play a role, but concerns arise over the removal of a specific option for LGBTQ+ youth on the crisis line. Despite historical underreporting, less stigma may encourage more people to seek help. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city. Every story. AI powered.
