Spicely's Forgotten Stand: A Black Soldier's Fight for Democracy
In honor of Booker T. Spicelys 116th birthday, a special program was held to remember the Black soldier killed in Durham, North Carolina, in 1944. Spicely was shot by a bus driver after questioning Jim Crow practices, an incident that predated Rosa Parks protest by over a decade. Despite numerous witnesses, the driver was acquitted by an all-white jury. A historic marker now stands at the spot where Spicely died, ensuring his story is not forgotten. DNN | The Daily News Now!
