Solar Storm Alert: Aurora Display Tuesday
Space weather forecasters are on high alert for a pair of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) expected to arrive Tuesday night, potentially bringing spectacular aurora displays to parts of the northern US. While these CMEs may not hit Earth directly, a glancing blow could still produce vibrant colors on our northern horizon. The best views are anticipated in the northern states, extending down into the upper Midwest and even Pennsylvania. However, theres still some uncertainty regarding the exact timing of each event, as space weather forecasting is quite challenging due to limited immediate information. The joint NOAA and NASA Deep Space Climate Observatory, or DSCOVR, stationed at Lagrange Point One, will provide the first in-situ look at the speed, density, and makeup of the solar wind, giving us about an hours heads-up before these events reach us.
