Shelton Makes History at US Open | Durham News

Ben Shelton is rewriting tennis history, storming into his first US Open finals after a hard-fought semifinal win over Frances Tiafoe. Facing top seed Alexander Zverev, he’s poised to become the first Black American man to reach this stage since Arthur Ashe in 1972 — a legacy that carries immense weight and pride. Emotional after the match, Shelton honored his parents’ sacrifices and dedicated the victory to his grandmother, who helped shape his father’s tennis journey. His girlfriend Trinity Rodman, a soccer star, cheered him on from the stands — though she may miss the finals due to her own game. With Sunday’s showdown looming, Shelton is rallying fans for maximum energy as he aims to claim his first Grand Slam title and cement his place in tennis lore.
