North Carolina Mountains Brace for Massive Snowstorm
North Carolinas mountains brace for a significant snow event, with some areas expecting up to eighteen inches by Tuesday. A fast-moving arctic air mass will bring temperatures well below freezing, posing risks of hypothermia and frostbite. The first flakes began falling late Sunday, with more than a foot of snow likely in higher parts of the Great Smoky Mountains. Wind chills could drop as low as minus two degrees in Avery County, and strong winds, potentially reaching thirty-five to forty-five miles per hour, are expected at elevations above three thousand five hundred feet. Great Smoky Mountains National Park has closed several roads, but temperatures are expected to warm up by Wednesday. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city.
