New TSA Fee for Non-REAL ID Travelers

From February 1st, travelers without a REAL ID or passport at airport security checkpoints will face a $45 fee. This is part of the TSAs REAL ID program implementation. If you dont have a compliant ID, youll need to verify your identity through a biometric or biographic system. The fee covers administrative and IT costs, and is meant to be borne by travelers, not taxpayers. You can follow instructions on TSA.gov for identity verification and pay the fee. The process typically takes 10-15 minutes, but could take up to 30 minutes or longer. However, theres no guarantee youll be cleared to cross the checkpoint, and youll need to pay the fee again if you travel without a REAL ID after the 10-day period. DNN | The Daily News Now!
