NBC4 Helicopter Crash in LA | Durham News

A NBC4 news helicopter crashed in Los Angeles Tuesday evening, killing three people—including 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia—while covering a bus collision. The aircraft burst into flames upon impact, damaging nearby vehicles and injuring others. Investigators suspect engine failure may have triggered the crash, though low altitude likely hampered emergency maneuvers. This tragedy echoes past aviation disasters involving news choppers, with NBC4 itself having suffered a similar loss in 1977. As authorities probe the cause, the incident underscores the perilous risks of aerial journalism in urban settings.
