National Book Awards Celebrate Diverse Voices

The National Book Awards honored authors from around the world, with Rabih Alameddine winning fiction for The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother), Patricia Smith winning poetry for The Intention of Thunder, and Omar El Akkad winning nonfiction for One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This. Other winners included Daniel Nayeri for young people’s literature and Gabriela Cabezón Cámara for translated literature. The event, held at Cipriani Wall Street, served as a platform for authors to express views on current events, with many touching on issues like immigration and racial barriers. Honorary awards were presented to George Saunders and Roxane Gay, who delivered impactful speeches. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city. Every story.
