Mars' First Detected Lightning: A New Frontier
Scientists have detected what they believe to be lightning on Mars for the first time, thanks to a microphone on NASAs Perseverance rover. The French-led team reported fifty-five instances of mini lightning over two Martian years, mostly heard during dust storms and dust devils. These electrical discharges were tiny, only a few inches in size, and occurred close to the rovers microphone. While some scientists remain skeptical, the discovery opens a new field of investigation for Mars science. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city.
