Government Shutdown Ends, Funding Secured
After forty-three days, the longest federal government shutdown in history comes to an end as President Trump signs a compromise bill. The Senate approves the bill, with eight Democratic senators breaking ranks, and the House follows suit. The legislation funds most federal agencies through January thirtieth, with full-year funding for USDA, legislative branch, and military construction and veterans affairs. It also fully funds the food stamp program, replenishes SNAPs contingency fund, and allocates funds for child nutrition programs and WIC. Retroactive pay is guaranteed for federal workers who missed paychecks during the shutdown, and workforce levels return to pre-shutdown levels. DNN | The Daily News Now!
