Duke's Durham Initiatives: Affordable Housing & Education

Duke University is making significant strides in community engagement, particularly in Durham. The Duke and Durham Today and Tomorrow Task Force has led to initiatives like the Center for Community-Engaged Scholarship, focusing on affordable housing. Duke has partnered with organizations to create over one thousand affordable housing units and plays a big role in the Durham Affordable Housing Loan Fund. On the education front, Duke Health, Durham Technical Community College, and Durham Public Schools have established the Durham Early College of Health Sciences, with Duke Health committing to hiring sixty percent of the graduates. Dukes four pillars for economic mobility include hiring, building, buying, and investing locally, with two hundred thirty-three million dollars spent with Durham-based businesses last year.
