Chronquiry: What is S/U Grading?
Episode
Duke University students have until this Friday at 11:59 PM to decide whether to request S/U grading for one of their classes, allowing them to take courses without the pressure of it affecting their GPA. However, this grading option is not available for all classes and requires professors to opt-in. Students must fill out a specific form on the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences website to request the S/U option. The decision is not just about filling out a form, as students who haven't declared a major need an adviser's approval, and those who have settled on a major need their academic dean's sign-off. Once a class is switched to S/U, the grade can't be changed back to a letter. Duke reminds students to think carefully before making the switch, as a U for unsatisfactory will still show up on transcripts and could raise questions for transfer applications or graduate schools.
