From Dentistry Made Simple Dentistry Made Simple

A comprehensive clinical guide to facial bone contouring surgery, emphasizing that skeletal structure is the fundamental basis of facial aesthetics. The author details various surgical techniques for the mandible, chin, and zygoma, including the use of alloplastic implants for augmentation and osteotomies for reduction. A significant portion of the material focuses on patient safety, highlighting the necessity of protecting critical nerves and blood vessels to avoid permanent sensory loss or hemorrhage. Furthermore, the source addresses the management of soft tissue changes, such as sagging, by combining bone work with lifting procedures or liposuction. Detailed preoperative assessments, including 3D CT imaging and clinical consultations, are presented as vital steps for ensuring predictable and harmonious outcomes. Precise surgical approaches, such as intraoral or bicoronal incisions, are also explored to minimize visible scarring while providing necessary skeletal exposure.
