Essentials of Orthognathic Surgery

A comprehensive framework for the diagnosis and treatment of various jaw misalignments. The text highlights that while patients are often grouped by skeletal and dental similarities, every case requires a customized surgical and orthodontic response. A significant portion of the material focuses on mandibular anteroposterior deficiency, outlining the specific facial and dental traits associated with Class II malocclusions. It emphasizes the necessity of presurgical orthodontics to align arches and position incisors, which ultimately dictates the success of the surgical correction. The source further details how surgical techniques, such as the bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy, are used to achieve optimal functional and esthetic results. Case studies and clinical illustrations are utilized to demonstrate the nuances of treatment, including the role of genioplasty in enhancing profile harmony.
