Basic Guide to Orthodontic Dental Nursing

A comprehensive introduction to orthodontic dental nursing, primarily sourced from Fiona Grist’s professional guide. It defines orthodontics as a specialized branch of dentistry focused on facial growth, jaw development, and the correction of malocclusions to improve both function and aesthetics. The material outlines the clinical assessment process, detailing how practitioners classify bite relationships and use diagnostic tools like radiographs, cephalometric tracings, and study models. Furthermore, it emphasizes the dental nurse's pivotal role in patient communication, chairside assistance, and the management of clinical records. Finally, the text introduces occlusal indices, such as the IOTN, which provide standardized criteria for determining a patient's eligibility and necessity for treatment.
