Selective Ignorance: Ep. 80 | Power Of The Tongue

From Decisions, Decisions The Black Effect Podcast Network and iHeartPodcasts

In this episode of Selective Ignorance, Mandii B, A-King, and Jason “Jah” Lee tackle food safety, religion, manifestation, surveillance, privacy, and politics. After previewing the episode [ 00:38 ], the crew debates a mango recall and food safety scares [ 03:50 ], questioning whether deregulation and Project 2025 could contribute to broader disruption [ 08:00 ]. After jokes about honorary degrees [ 11:32 ], they discuss Fivio Foreign’s baptism and church hypocrisy [ 13:56 ], before Mandii recounts a tense debate about Christianity, astrology, witchcraft, science, and credible sources [ 17:13 ]. The conversation turns to manifestation and the “power of the tongue” [ 27:09 ], goals outside podcasting [ 28:47 ], and whether speaking things into existence influences outcomes [ 29:39 ]. They reflect on career and relationship momentum [ 31:49 ], life-changing decisions [ 33:18 ], Mandii’s move to Atlanta and new network [ 35:59 ], seeing past goals become reality [ 38:45 ], and respect within podcasting [ 42:18 ].

The main debate examines surveillance versus safety, beginning with abortion tracking and reproductive-health surveillance [ 45:29 ] before expanding to Ring cameras and community monitoring [ 52:20 ], Meta smart glasses [55:36 ], and wearable cameras becoming increasingly normalized [ 56:46 ]. The crew weighs intent versus what gets recorded [ 58:01 ], the potential for misuse [ 59:51 ], and whether public surveillance protects people or creates new privacy risks [ 01:02:25 ]. They debate cameras as crime deterrents [ 01:03:18 ] versus fears of Big Brother and government overreach [ 01:04:41 ], including the politics surrounding Flock license-plate cameras [ 01:06:37 ]. Finally, they confront the contradiction of fearing surveillance while carrying smartphones and installing connected cameras [ 01:17:21 ], question the “nothing to hide” argument [ 01:20:15 ], and close on how much privacy Americans should sacrifice for security [ 01:22:51 ].
