The Pat McAfee "Backlash Era" Has Begun

Czabe, Andy and Gene open on a "super sports equinox," a night when all four major leagues and the WNBA are active, and debate whether October is the best sports month. Gene votes for April. Andy shares stories from his Seattle trip to see his son and grandson, and the group trades food and family anecdotes.

They then dig into the WNBA, where the Finals is tied 2-2 and a possible Game 6 was moved to noon Thursday because of an arena conflict. They argue the league has botched its moment and has effectively split into two, with a "Caitlin Clark league" on top of the rest. The NFL talk covers Dan Campbell's aggressive call and the unbeaten Vikings, with a debate over whether their defense can carry Kyler Murray. They also cover Anthony Davis and the Wizards, Jalen Williams' serious injury, and the NBA's new prediction-market deals.

The second half turns to media. Czabe sees a backlash building against Pat McAfee, reads a Cornell study on why overconfident people seem to succeed, and discusses Mike Wilbon's attack on the New York Times and the decline of newspaper sports sections. They close with the Knicks' botched championship-ring rollout, which included a phishing-style email to employees.
