Introduction to Compiler Design

From CyberSecurity Summary CyberSecurity Summary

This excerpt from Introduction to Compiler Design by Torben Ægidius Mogensen provides a comprehensive overview of compiler design principles, focusing on the theoretical foundations and practical techniques used in compiler construction. It covers various stages of the compiler development process, including lexical analysis, syntax analysis, symbol tables, intermediate code generation, register allocation, function call management, and data-flow analysis. The book explores topics like regular expressions, finite automata, context-free grammars, parse tables, data structures for symbol tables, intermediate languages, and optimization techniques for loops and common subexpressions. It also delves into the design space of type systems, explaining the concepts of static and dynamic typing, strong and weak typing, and type checking algorithms. Throughout the text, the author uses illustrative examples and exercises to solidify the presented concepts and encourage readers to explore compiler design in greater depth.
