Introducing Erlang: Getting Started in Functional Programming

From CyberSecurity Summary CyberSecurity Summary

A functional programming language designed by Ericsson for high reliability and scalability. The author, Simon St.Laurent, guides newcomers through the initial hurdles of the language by focusing on its unique command-line shell and single-assignment variable model. Readers learn how to install the software, perform basic arithmetic, and define anonymous functions for immediate use. The material further explains how to organize code into compiled modules, using directives to manage function visibility and arity. By contrasting Erlang's virtual machine with other environments, the source highlights how its architecture supports concurrency and fault tolerance. Ultimately, the guide prepares developers to shift their mindset from traditional imperative styles toward a process-oriented approach.
