Functional Software Size Measurement Methodology with Effort Estimation and Performance Indication

A comprehensive system designed to accurately estimate software size and development effort. Published by IEEE Press and Wiley, the manual addresses deficiencies in existing measurement standards by analyzing all major software components rather than relying on partial measurements and arbitrary multipliers. The methodology utilizes Software Component’s Feature Points (SCFPs) as a universal unit to quantify functionality from requirements specifications. By examining measurable components and performance quality indicators, the FSSM provides project managers with realistic effort estimates and diagnostics for both static structures and dynamic run-time characteristics. The text outlines the methodology’s ISO/IEC compliance, its applicability across diverse software domains, and its ability to identify deficiencies in functional requirements. Overall, these sources serve as a technical guide for software professionals to improve project planning and cost analysis through precise functional size measurement.
