Fake Images Conspiracy

The recent protests in Los Angeles have been accompanied by a wave of misleading images and videos, many of which have been taken out of context oTr entirely fabricated2. Here’s why this is happening:Reasons Behind the Fake Images Political Manipulation: Some groups use old or doctored images to exaggerate the unrest and push political narratives. For example, a widely shared video of burning police cars was actually from the 2020 George Floyd protests, not the current demonstrations. Social Media Virality: False claims spread quickly, especially when they confirm biases or stoke outrage. Some posts falsely claimed that immigrants were setting cars on fire, using footage from a 2024 street takeover in Hyde Park. AI-Generated Misinformation: Some images circulating online appear to be AI-generated or altered, making it harder to distinguish real events from fabrications. Reviving Old Conspiracies: Some posts falsely suggest that the protests were orchestrated by wealthy individuals or nonprofit organizations, using recycled conspiracy theories.
