Scientists just dropped the official 8 principles for alien contact -- yeah the IAA and SETI eggheads updated their decades-old rulebook so if we ever snag a real ET signal we verify it first, tell the whole world immediately, archive the data like it's the Holy Grail, and under no circumstances fire back a reply until the UN and every government on Earth holds a global committee meeting because apparently saying "hi" could get us all vaporized or invited to the galactic dinner table as the main course. This is the cosmic version of "don't text back the random number" after years of radio silence panic -- because nothing says we're ready for first contact like making sure the bureaucrats sign off before we risk turning Earth into a giant target.
