Watson’s Struggles and Monken’s Defense | Cleveland Browns News

The Browns’ season opener ended in a brutal 34-10 loss to Jacksonville, with Deshaun Watson throwing for just 205 yards and one TD while tossing an early interception. The offense sputtered under pressure, plagued by penalties and poor execution. Coach Todd Monken defended Watson fiercely, shifting blame to personnel decisions and insisting players must support whoever’s under center — but critics like ESPN’s Tony Rizzo and co-host Nick Paulus slammed his excuses, calling out Monken for prolonging the QB competition and dismissing any “positive signs” as garbage-time flukes. With fans demanding change and Shedeur Sanders emerging as a potential alternative, Watson’s next performance against Tampa Bay could be his last chance to prove he belongs — or risk triggering a quarterback overhaul.
