Watson Faces Pressure, Not Mayfield | Cleveland Browns News

Deshaun Watson’s return to the field is anything but smooth, as the Browns stumble in their opener against Jacksonville — a game marred by offensive struggles despite Watson’s effort. Facing mounting pressure from media and fans, Watson dismisses the notion that his job is on the line, calling it manufactured hype fueled by unrealistic expectations. Coach Todd Monken stands firmly behind him, emphasizing the decision to start Watson was never week-to-week and highlighting both the team’s and coaching staff’s room for growth. Now, with a trip to Tampa Bay looming, Watson must focus on beating the Buccaneers’ defense — not dwelling on facing Baker Mayfield, the QB he replaced in Cleveland. Mayfield has thrived in Tampa, while Watson’s tenure in Cleveland has been shadowed by injuries and a massive contract. But Watson’s laser focus remains on winning, not the narrative.
