Watson Earns Browns Starting Role | Cleveland Browns News

The Cleveland Browns have chosen Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback for the 2026 season, opting over Shedeur Sanders despite both players vying for the role. Watson, recovering from a torn Achilles and returning after missing the entire 2025 season, earned the nod after a competitive offseason evaluation by OC Todd Monken — with Sanders stepping in as backup for the Jaguars opener. Signed to a massive five-year, $230M guaranteed deal in 2022, Watson remains focused on proving his value as he takes the field Sunday, September 13th, aiming to set the tone for what could be a pivotal year.
