The Browns’ Baker Mayfield Mistake | Cleveland Browns News

The Browns’ regret over trading Baker Mayfield is palpable as he returns to face them—once their franchise QB, now thriving in Tampa Bay. Drafted first overall in 2018, Mayfield led them to their first playoff run in years, but a risky pivot to Deshaun Watson, fueled by legal drama and a massive contract, shattered their chemistry. Former OC Ken Zampese calls it a missed opportunity, praising Mayfield’s early success and blaming the front office for “mucking it up.” The Browns’ decision created chaos, while Mayfield matured into a star elsewhere. This Week 2 clash isn’t just football—it’s a reckoning for a franchise still wrestling with the fallout of a gamble that backfired spectacularly.
