Hall of Fame Without Team Glory | Cleveland Browns News

Joe Thomas, Hall of Fame left tackle for the Cleveland Browns, reveals the crushing mental toll of playing for a team that never won — spending 11 seasons in a losing culture where his individual excellence couldn’t change the outcome. A pivotal moment came when his wife noticed his despair after a flawless performance that ended in a devastating loss, forcing him to confront his helplessness. His final season in 2017 was especially brutal — a winless 0-16 campaign that ironically landed the Browns the No. 1 draft pick, which they used on Myles Garrett, another star who also endured years of futility in Cleveland before being traded. While Garrett moved on to the Rams, Thomas was honored with a Hall of Fame induction in 2023 — a powerful reminder that greatness can be recognized even when team success remains elusive.
