October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but there is one aspect of the disease that can sometimes receive less attention — what it means to live with advanced breast cancer. Barbara King, from Corofin in North Clare, was diagnosed in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Six years on, she continues to live alongside cancer and is speaking out about the importance of patient voices, clear communication and support. Barbara was one of eight women featured in Living Loudly. Dying to be Heard, a photographic exhibition held earlier this month in Dublin, supported by the Marie Keating Foundation and AstraZeneca. Joining Barbara was Liz Yeates, CEO of the Marie Keating Foundation, to discuss the support available to people living with advanced cancer and why continued funding for these services is so important.
