Clare Teachers' Rep Claims Recruitment Crisis Will Worsen Without Adequate Pay Deal

A Clare teachers representative claims the recruitment and retention crisis in the sector will worsen without an adequate pay deal. It comes as the biggest public service strike in more than 15 years will bring widespread disruption across the country today. From hospitals and classrooms, to government offices and the courts, today's strike is affecting almost every area of public life, as over 300,000 public sector workers take to picket lines. Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers committed €1.2 billion to public sector pay rises in the budget, with unions stating this is not enough to cover earnings lost due to inflation. TUI Assistant General Secretary for Clare and Limerick, Anthony Dowling, says pay rate for public sector workers isn't a priority for Government.
