๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

A morning that began like any other became one of the darkest days in American history.

Today, we revisit September 11 through the voices heard over the emergency radio channels as the disaster unfolded.

๐Ÿšจ Dispatchers calling units.

๐Ÿš’ Firefighters responding.

๐Ÿš“ Police officers rushing toward danger.

๐Ÿš‘ EMS crews preparing for casualties.

๐Ÿ“ป Commanders attempting to understand an unimaginable and rapidly changing emergency.

These recordings aren't actors reading a script.

They are the voices of REAL PEOPLE responding to a REAL DISASTER.

๐ŸŽง LISTEN TO THE RADIO TRAFFIC

Behind every transmission was a human being.

A firefighter.

A police officer.

A paramedic.

A dispatcher.

A commander.

A person with a family waiting for them at home.

Some of those voices belonged to men and women who would not survive the day.

๐Ÿš’ THEY RAN TOWARD THE DANGER

While thousands of people desperately tried to escape, first responders were moving in the opposite direction.

โฌ†๏ธ Up stairwells.

๐Ÿš’ Carrying equipment.

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’ Helping civilians evacuate.

๐Ÿ“ป Following assignments transmitted over their radios.

They knew the danger.

They went anyway.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ COURAGE IN THE MIDST OF CHAOS

The radio recordings capture confusion, urgency, professionalism, bravery, and sacrifice.

There was no opportunity to rehearse.

There was no way to know what would happen next.

There was simply a job that needed to be done.

And they did it.

๐Ÿ“– โ€œGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.โ€ โ€” John 15:13

๐Ÿ™ REMEMBER THE DISPATCHERS

The voices behind the microphones were also part of the response.

Dispatchers remained at their positions, transmitting information, coordinating resources, answering desperate calls, and trying to help responders operating inside an unprecedented catastrophe.

๐Ÿ“ป Sometimes a calm voice on the radio is the only connection a responder has to the world outside the emergency.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Nearly 3,000 people were killed on September 11, 2001.

Among them were 343 firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel who answered the call.

Today we remember:

๐Ÿš’ The firefighters.

๐Ÿš“ The police officers.

๐Ÿš‘ The EMS personnel.

๐Ÿ“ป The dispatchers.

๐Ÿข The civilians.

โœˆ๏ธ The passengers and crews.

โค๏ธ The families whose lives were forever changed.

๐Ÿ™ And all those who responded in the days, weeks and months that followed.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ LISTEN โ€” REMEMBER โ€” HONOR

As you hear these recordings, remember that every voice represents a person.

Every unit number represents a crew.

Every transmission is par
