It’s finally time for the season finale of A COPY OF A COPY! In this episode, Ray and Rob dive into the world of foreign-language-to-English remakes by comparing Wim Wenders’ 1987 German arthouse classic WINGS OF DESIRE with its Hollywood counterpart, CITY OF ANGELS, starring Nicolas Cage (MOONSTRUCK, RAISING ARIZONA) and Meg Ryan (SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, FRENCH KISS). Both films follow an angel who, drawn to the pull of human life, falls in love with a woman and must decide whether to give up eternity for the challenges of being human. While WINGS OF DESIRE is set in Cold War-era Berlin, CITY OF ANGELS takes place in its namesake city of Los Angeles. Wender's original is a darling of arthouse cinema and captures the complex emotions of a country in perpetual turmoil. CITY OF ANGELS attempts to capture the narrative roots of the original but adds that flare of Hollywood filmmaking in the attempts to reach a wider audience. Does it succeed?
