Debunking Calvinism - Lesson 14 - Limited Atonement
In this episode of Debunking Calvinism, we examine the doctrine of Limited Atonement, one of the central teachings in the Calvinistic system. Calvinism teaches that Christ did not die for every person, but only for those individuals whom God had already chosen to save before the foundation of the world. According to this view, the cross was designed to secure salvation for the elect rather than provide salvation for all. In this lesson, we first explain what Calvinists mean by Limited Atonement and why it logically follows from their doctrine of Unconditional Election. We then look at the key passages often used to defend this view, including John 10, Matthew 1:21, Ephesians 5:25, and Romans 8. Finally, we examine the broader testimony of Scripture, which repeatedly declares that Christ died for the world and that the gospel invitation is sincerely extended to all people. The Bible presents the death of Christ as sufficient for all, offered to all, and received by those who believe. When the full counsel of Scripture is considered, the gospel remains a genuine invitation: "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
