Without You, There Is No Us: My Time with the Sons of North Korea's Elite

This Book provides a detailed account of the author's experience teaching at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST), offering a rare glimpse into the lives of North Korea's elite youth. The text explores the author's observations of the students' isolation, controlled environment, and limited knowledge of the outside world. It also describes the challenges of being a foreign teacher in a highly restrictive society, highlighting the constant surveillance, the cultural and linguistic barriers, and the unexpected events that occurred during the author's time there, including the announcement of Kim Jong-il's death. The narrative blends personal reflections on the author's own past with descriptions of the daily routines, the political messaging pervasive in the school and country, and the complex, evolving relationships with the students and other staff members.
