Time and Power: Visions of History in German Politics, from the Thirty Years' War to the Third Reich

The Book explores how various figures and regimes in German history, from the Great Elector Frederick William to the Nazi regime, conceived of and manipulated historical time and temporality in the pursuit of political power. It examines conflicts over traditional privileges, the use of history writing and art to shape perceptions of time, the impact of changing historical circumstances on leaders like Bismarck, and the Nazi regime's radical rejection of linear history in favor of a millennial, prophetic outlook. The notes and index provide further context, indicating discussions of various historical concepts and individuals across different eras.
