The Street Lawyer: A Novel

Portrays a harrowing hostage crisis within a prestigious Washington, D.C., law firm. An impoverished man, referred to as Mister, infiltrates the building and holds several wealthy attorneys captive using a handgun and a makeshift explosive vest. During the standoff, the assailant interrogates the lawyers about their financial success and their lack of charitable support for the city’s homeless population. The tension culminates when a police sniper kills the intruder during a food delivery, leaving the protagonist, Michael Brock, physically unharmed but deeply shaken. The narrative highlights the stark disparity between the affluent legal profession and the desperate reality of life on the streets. Following the violence, Michael's reflection on his wife's absence and the firm's cold environment suggests a coming personal transformation.
