The Rooster Bar

Introduces the opening chapters of John Grisham's novel The Rooster Bar, which follows three law students struggling during their final semester at the subpar Foggy Bottom Law School. Mark Frazier deals with a fractured family and an uncertain job offer while performing unpaid labor at a snobbish firm to escape his massive student debt. His friend Todd Lucero, a popular bartender, regrets choosing a costly legal education over his dream of owning a pub. Their classmate Zola Maal navigates the pressures of law school while her undocumented Senegalese family faces constant threats of deportation. The narrative centers on their shared disillusionment with a legal education system they view as a predatory scam. Adding to their stress, their close friend Gordy has ceased taking his bipolar medication, causing a mental health crisis that threatens to unravel their remaining time in Washington, D.C.
