The Death of Mrs. Westaway

A young woman living in a dilapidated flat and struggling under the weight of crushing financial debt. Her desperate situation is compounded by threatening notes from loan sharks and the lingering grief of losing her mother years prior. Amidst this turmoil, she receives a legal letter claiming she is a beneficiary of her grandmother’s substantial estate in Cornwall. Though Hal is certain her grandparents have been dead for decades and a clerical error has occurred, she realizes the potential inheritance could be her only path to safety and security. The narrative blends a bleak modern setting with a mysterious, atmospheric prologue that hints at long-held family secrets. Ultimately, Hal’s dire circumstances force her to consider a dangerous deception to claim a fortune that may not be hers.
