A young Black part-time babysitter, and Alix Chamberlain, her wealthy white employer, while also showcasing their complicated relationship dynamics. The narrative focuses on a racially charged incident where Emira is wrongly accused of kidnapping Alix's daughter, Briar, which sparks tensions and leads to a media spotlight. Subsequent sections explore Alix's high school past, the discovery that Emira is dating Alix’s former boyfriend, Kelley, and Emira's ultimate decision to leave the Chamberlains for a less passionate but more stable clerical job after confronting them. The text concludes with a detailed acknowledgment section from the author, thanking those who supported the creation and publication of the novel.
