Sputnik Sweetheart

Focuses on narrative elements, particularly the disappearance of the character Sumire while on a trip to Greece with her friend and boss, Miu. The unnamed narrator, who is deeply in love with Sumire, is called to the island by Miu and discovers Sumire’s writings, which explore her identity, her difficulty with writing, and her unrequited love for Miu. The narrative contrasts the deeply reflective, symbolic interior life of Sumire with the practical, often lonely reality experienced by the narrator and Miu.
